welcome to

Ashburton Repair Cafe

A warm welcome to Ashburton Repair Cafe. We want to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by repairing more. Help us do this by bringing us your broken items for repair.

Reduce landfill by bringing your broken items to Ashburton Repair Cafe and getting them fixed!

Book in an item

There is no charge! We ask for the cost of any parts, and a donation for our time.

Volunteer led

In the hot summer of 2018, a small group came together to create the Ashburton Repair Cafe. They were members of Ashburton Climate Emergency. Using the Dutch repair cafe model, Devon Community Action Group supported communities to establish their own, including ours in Ashburton.

Great for your finances and the environment!

Our repair service saves the consumer £’s and also helps negate landfill. We’re part of a network of over 2,500 repair cafes across the world. For more information about the global network, see repaircafe.org. Closer to home, we’re part of Devon CAG, a network of groups supporting their local communities.

BOOKING SYSTEM

Please help us by booking your item in.

For Saturday sessions, you can choose a time to drop-off your item for repair

A note from Nigel

Welcome

A repair cafe is exactly what the name suggests: you bring broken items from home such as clothes, tools and electrical items. Whilst our volunteers repair the item, you can stay and enjoy tea, coffee or cake or you can leave the item with us. Or, just come to the cafe, with nothing to repair!

We don’t charge. We ask for the cost of any parts, and a donation for our time.

Take a look around our website and see what we do, book an appointment for a repair, or send us a message, and lots more.

We look forward to seeing you at Ashburton Repair Cafe soon!

It makes sense

WHY REPAIR

We throw away lots of stuff – too much – even things with almost nothing wrong. Often, these items go to landfill, wasting precious raw materials, and energy creating new things. Both recycling and creating new things releases CO2.

Repairing saves money, materials, energy and reduces CO2.

Supporting the community and saving costs

So far we have saved the community £££s in new items and repair costs

Repairing items not only helps to save and look after our planet but also saves you a lot on repair costs as well as the cost of buying items again new.

How to get involved

We are always looking for volunteers, so if you have experience in anything, please reach out and get involved. We are solely reliant on our volunteers and their expertise. Come and be part of the repair revolution!

Community Reviews

We want to hear from you....

We'd like to hear about your experience of the Repair Cafe. Please contact us and let us know.

Here are some of the comments we've received already.

We have been to the repair café a few times and love its buzzy, purposeful and friendly atmosphere. We have been so impressed by the results, tools and scissors sharpened and help with finding the best and most cost effective way of fixing a food processor. I would recommend anyone to take their broken or damaged articles along to see what can be done with them.

‘I have found the Repair Cafe exceptionally useful. Very pleasant atmosphere and splendid expertise. I shall carry on using it!'

The repair cafe has been invaluable to me!
I have been able to avail of such varied skills:
New handles have been beautifully crafted on to my pressure cooker pot which I can now use again.
My grandchildren's wooden train had a missing part which was beautifully recrafted.
I needed help and support at various times with my computer which was freely given, bringing peace of mind.
For me the repair cafe has been a treasure trove of skills and kindness within this welcoming community of Ashburton
